"Royal Jam has been around as a Grandkids song for awhile now. Being a bit of an outlier among our repertoire, it has not yet found a proper home. However, we all loved playing the song so we went into Ryan Groff's Perennial Studios in May 2013 and recorded a demo version with Evan's brother Jake. One of the coolest aspects of this song is that, while it doesn't feel like too many of our other songs, it has some transitory elements, feeling akin to both our first record, Timeshare, and our second record, which is nearing completion."

"keep it in the dark" feels like summer storm music: it swirls and comes in torrents but it cools your skin with burst of calm. i don't know how they balance the dichotomy so easily, but they do. the pitterpatter of accidentals in "fools"'s guitar line, the gentle unison vocals of "we collide", the churning sea of "see what happens"- it all melds into something as rousing as it is calming.
